Self-study Pre-Licensing and Insurance Continuing Education Courses (ICEC) are correspondence programs that may be completed online or by paper. Since no specific classroom time is required, you must pass a multiple-choice exam to assure the NCDOI that sufficient training time was spent and proficiency was attained.

What happens if I don't meet the minimum requirements?

After I get my license, what kind of training do I need?

Once I get my insurance license, how quickly can I get a job?
Immediately. Students successfully passing the State exam will be considered licensed agents and can begin looking for an insurance position immediately.

Why choose the online program?
Convenience. This distance-learning program allows students to get an insurance license on their terms and time schedule. The program is available to students 24-hours per day, 7 days a week. Students participating in this program will get all of the following materials online: the insurance textbook, quizzes, prelicensing exam and access to the video insurance class. This program was designed to simulate an actual insurance class as if the student were physically there. If students have questions, no problem, students taking the insurance courses will the instructors' email address in order to ask questions. The expected response time is within 24-hours; however, instructors typically respond within a few hours.

The instructors facilitating the prelicensing courses have experience in teaching on the college level, co-authored all five insurance books and have practical sales experience. The instructor teaching the Life, Health and Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care classes is the Director and he has 20 plus years of experience in the insurance industry coupled with an Undergraduate, Masters and all PhD coursework in Risk Management and Insurance. The instructor teaching all of the Property and Casualty courses has her undergraduate degree in Mathematic, Masters in Business Administration and Ph.D. coursework in Management coupled with insurance sales experience.

I am affiliated with a Community College, how do I obtain my User ID and Password?
Students registering through the Community College System will be given a User ID and Password. Students will have the opportunity to change their password if they desire.

Your information is stored for a minimum of 3 years, in the event the NCDOI request information on previous classes taken by you.

Is my personal information safe and secure?
Yes. Any time personal information is collected, careful measures are taken to make certain that it is and will remain secure. Students may see a lock at the bottom of their browser indicating you are viewing a secure page and the data flowing will be encrypted. Additionally, the computer is secure. Precautions are taken to ensure that the systems are secure and that they meet industry standards, including the application of firewalls for our Internet-based systems.

Can I repeat an Insurance Continuing Education Course (ICEC)?
NCDOI requires that ICEC courses NOT be repeated within a 2-year time frame, after 2 years, they may be repeated. Prelicensing courses may be repeated as many times as required by the student without time restrictions.

Schools offering prelicensing courses usually offer Insurance Continuing Education Courses (ICEC). Students should be careful not to duplicate a course number within two years. The course numbers can be found on the Certificates of Completion that you will receive upon completion of an ICEC course.

What are State Filing Fees?
State Filing Fees (also known as Roster Fees) are additional charges levied by NC to process continuing education credits. Insurance Educators is required by NCDOI to remit filing fees for your ICEC.

Will my Prelicensing and ICEC courses expire?
Yes, You have 30 days from the date of purchase to complete your prelicensing program and 60 days for your ICEC courses. Courses will expire after that time.

Can I exchange a course I have ordered?
No, once the course materials have been made available which is at the moment of payment in most instances, exchanges are not allowed.

Is the insurance program available in Spanish?
Yes. The instructors are working on offering this program with Spanish dubbing for the videos. When English is not the first language, this program can be challenging. Since the State Department of Insurance does not have any plans to make the State exam available in Spanish, the quizzes and final exam in will be in English.

Can I print my online course material?
For Prelicensing Education the answer is YES. Students will be able to print the written material. For ICEC, the answer is NO as required by the NCDOI. Exam material cannot be printed.

Do I have to review my online course all at once?
You are able to log in and out of your online course as many times as you need to study the course material. The State Department of Insurance requires that you complete the final exam in one setting; however, if you lose your Internet connection, the system will automatically grade your exam. Does the online exam need to be proctored?
NC does not require our exams to be monitored by an exam proctor. Based on NC specific requirements, the exams are required to be “closed-book”, which means you are not allowed to review or access the material while you are answering the exam questions.

What is a passing score?
All courses being taken for prelicensing credit must be completed with a passing score of 75% or higher. All courses being taken for Insurance Continuing Education Course credit must be completed with a passing score of 70% or higher.

What happens if I do not pass my exam?
If you do not pass an online exam, the system will automatically give you the opportunity to retest online one additional time. All retests will contain a different set of test questions from your original exam. Students have 2 attempts on the prelicensing exam. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have increased the number attempts to a total of five.

Online exams are graded instantly and the results are posted on the screen as well as emailed to you.

What do I do after I take the insurance prelicensing course and pass the final exam?
Students passing the prelicensing exam will be mailed a certificate of completion with an original instructor signature as required by the NCDOI. The certificate will serve as an admission ticket to the State exam. Upon successful completion of the State exam, students will receive an insurance license that day if all of the screening questions were answered to the NCDOI's satisfaction. This process is specifically described in the Candidate Handbook which students are strongly encouraged to read.

How long does it take to get certificates of completion?
Prelicensing certificates of completion are mailed the next business day through First Class mail and generally arrive within 2 - 4 days depending upon where it is being mailed. ICEC Certificates of Completion are emailed upon successful completion of the final exam.

Can I print my certificates of completion from the Internet?
Online certificates are available for ICEC courses but not Prelicensing courses as required by the NCDOI. Since NC does not allow online Prelicensing certificates, we will mail the certificates of completion to the address on file.

What do I do if I have lost my original certificates?
The instructors will maintains your records for up to 3 years. We can create a duplicate certificate of completion. There is a small charge for this service.

Will I be notified when my hours have been reported to the State?
No, Once your courses have been reported, you can go onto the NCDOI website (www.ncdoi.com) to check your ICEC credits.

What happens if I don't pass the State exam?
The State Department of Insurance will allow a student to retest a total of five times within a 90-day period. Therefore, students who are not successful on the first attempt will have several opportunities to retest. There is a retesting fee charged by the State.

Do I need to download special software?
